KLINGRA

sonic Nordic Noir

Band bio

Klingra’s music is an invitation to slow down, to step into something immersive and introspective. Their sound flows with cinematic depth and long-form compositions that feel both timeless and innovative, blending layers of crafted arrangements with subtle, electronic touches. The Faroese ensemble draws from the wild, raw landscapes of their home, creating music that is both sweeping and intimate - sonic Nordic Noir, if you wish. There’s a quiet power in their music, an emotional tension that captures the shadows and mystery of these islands in the North Atlantic. It’s driven by dynamic swells, delicate textures, and a sense of space that lets each note resonate.

Founded in 2020, Klingra is based in the Faroe Islands, with a creative radius that spans the Nordic countries. Emerging from the legacy of Afenginn’s award-winning "Klingra" album, which inspired their name, Klingra embodies a new musical direction that embraces classical and electronic influences. At the heart of their sound is an attention to detail and a deep respect for composition. Award-winning lyrics, sung in Faroese, intertwine with rich musical layers treated and sculpted through analog and modular synths, blending acoustic warmth with a modern, electronic edge. There’s an underlying push and pull in their music - a tension that feels as present in the silences as in the climactic crescendi. It’s moody, immersive, and yet still with a constant glimpse of hope.

The seven members of Klingra are all both skilled and seasoned musicians and also respected composers in their own right, each bringing a wealth of experience to the group. Together, they create a sound that feels both rooted in the familiar yet constantly evolving - music that reaches beyond genres to explore something more profound and elemental.

Releases

"...eftir”, album (2023)

Klingra’s debut album, "...eftir", is a flowing journey through themes of legacy, resilience, and connection. Inspired by stories from the Faroese elders about loss, "...eftir" offers an immersive, cinematic experience where each track flows seamlessly into the next, creating a continuous listening experience that feels expansive and deeply personal.

"...droplets / dropar…”, book (2024)

"...droplets / dropar..." is a 212-page coffee table book that complements "...eftir" by diving deeper into the history, stories, and culture of the Faroe Islands and Greenland’s Færingehavn. Co-created by bandmates Kim Rafael Nyberg and Dánjal á Neystabø, the book weaves together poetry, recipes, and photography to capture a unique world shaped by the sea and the resilience of its people.

"...eftirljómar”, album (2025)

"...eftirljómar" - translating to "echoes" or "afterglow" - expands "...eftir" into an endlessly looped journey. Acting as both an introduction and an echo, "...eftirljómar" is a soundscape that flows naturally into the music of "...eftir", revisiting and reshaping familiar themes. This seamless blend creates a circular, dreamlike experience that returns the listener to the beginning. "...eftirljómar" will be released both as a standalone work and as an extended version with "...eftir".

...eftir is an album for quiet hours, best heard with eyes closed, allowing you to dive into its powerful soundscapes... It’s beautiful, yet tinged with sadness.

— Peter Elmelund, SPOT Festival 2023
Supremely wonderful, conveying an authentic, heartfelt, passionate response to a long-distant tragedy....The music turns circular again, stately and solemn, filled with reverence and understated intensity….…Flows and unfolds as a single, 42-minute unity, revealing its intricate structure and emotional depth.
