SINGLES
Released September 30th 2022.
First single from the Faroe Islands collective Klingra’s debut album “...eftir” start from a point where all extraneous matter seems to have been pared away. Whispered readings of poetic lyrics leave space to emotive currents of atmospheric pop, classical influences and electronics.

Tú // tú ert // eina // standandi // eftir
Far // far inn // farin í pettir
Vit // vit eru // Vit eru til // einkis // gjørd // av nýggjum
Tú speglast í øllum

Í fyrstuni (In the beginning)
Released November 4th 2022.
With an idea of combining classical, ambient, choral and spoken word in a new way, the 2nd single "Eitt minni" offers an emotional piano composition with achingly moving field recordings from a 94 year old Faroese fisherman, who shared his stories as a sailor shortly before his death. He tells a story about a tragedy by the west coast of Greenland in 1956, were a ship sank and 14 men died, either from drowning or freezing.
Lyrics
Abbi tosar:
…so komu teir í Føroyingahavnina, og líkini vórðu trillaði niðan í Velfarshúsið og breidd eftir gólvinum har.
So komu nakrir mans úr Godthåb at gera kisturnar. Tá teir so høvdu gjørt kisturnar, blivu líkini løgd í kisturnar.
Tá ið so tað arbeiðið var liðugt, kom ein trolari frá kompagnínum eftir kistunum.
Hann snakkaði so… hesin her maðurin, og takkaði fyri hetta arbeiði, sum vit høvdu gjørt. Vit bóru teir oman. Eg minnist so væl, tann, sum eg bar var 22 ár.
Ja, og so fór báturin avstað við líkunum, og vatnflugvarin fór eisini, og tann maðurin, sum hevði snakkað.
Soleiðis fóru teir allir avstað…

Grandfather talks:
…then they came into Føroyingahavn (the Faroese harbour in Greenland), and the bodies were wheeled up to Velfarshús (village hall) and laid out on the floor there.
Men from Godthåb came to build the coffins. When the work was done, a trawler from the company came to collect them. There were 14 coffins. Then a seaplane arrived. It landed on the fjord and came in towards the harbour. A man came out from the plane and over to us who had carried the corpses down to the boat.
He spoke….this man, and thanked us for the work we had done. We had carried the coffins. The man I carried was 22 years old. I remember that clearly.
Then the boat sailed away with the corpses. The man who had spoken to us took off on the seaplane. And so they all left.
eitt minni (a Memory)
Released December 2nd, 2022
The solitary in the vast Nordic landscapes is interpreted in music and lyrics by Klingra. The 3rd single from Faroe Islands collective combines atmospheric pop, classical influences and electronics into a suggestive epic piece. A haunting voice suggesting a foreboding atmosphere leads us into a constant crescendo with an ethereal choir around a collective build up, bending time and space.
Lyrics
Sigursljóð
Úr ørdeyðans gløðandi glæmu
Hógvaslóð frá rossi
Við reyðari skrævu
Einlig glóð
Sum gløðir i sløkmaðum báli
Trøllslig ró
Ein deymur av brennandi stáli
ENGLISH TRANSLATION by Lena Anderssen
Whispers of victory
from blistering ruins
Traces of hooves
from red-skinned horses
Solitary ember
glowing in a stifled fire
A ghostly peace
And the smell of melting steel
Trøllslig ró (Ghostly Peace)
Released January 1st, 2023
Klingras fourth single balances on the dusky borderline between experimental and pop music. “We crash to the ground and spring to the heavens,” sound the Faroese lyrics as the beautiful soundscape traces an emotional arc from loss to thankfulness
The band centers around the Faroe Islands, but has a radius that reaches most of the Nordic countries.
The bandmates’ collaborative previous also stretches way back, helping to facilitate a chemistry where much of the action takes place between the notes.
Lyrics
ENGLISH TRANSLATION by Lena Anderssen
In the droplet
”a droplet is nothing without faith in the ocean”,
says the river as it swells
”The ocean is nothing without faith in the droplet”,
whispers the deep as it rises
We crash to the ground and spring to the heavens
Drowning at the shore peering into infinity
On the horizon a ray on the verge
We crash to the ground and spring to the heavens
It ebbs and it flows
The yearning for answers
seeps into ponds
runs into lakes
where we as children longed to bathe in
We crash to the ground and spring to the heavens
It ebbs and it flows
less and less
Í dropanum (In the Droplet)
Released January 26th, 2023
The fifth single from Faroe Islands collective Klingra is the closing track on the upcoming album. A simple song where all extraneous matter has been pared away, leaving room for a lamentation of loss - as well as the celebration of memories and reflections.
“Where is the beginning when the ending turns in and wraps you in thankfulness?”, as the Faroese lyrics end, before the strings and pedal steel guitar fades out.
The album will be named …eftir (translated: left)
… like the sailors, left on the ice, when the coffins were sailed away
… like a bystander, left when the world passes by
… like you and me, left when we have lost
Lyrics
Tu ert i dropunum
sum slevja ur mjørkanum
Tu brakar i frostinum
Og seyrar
Úr sprungunum i turkinum
Endurspeglingar í hyljum
Guva burt
Hvør er byrjanin
Tá endin leggur seg
Og ballar teg
Í takksemi?
ENGLISH TRANSLATION by Lena Anderssen
You are in the droplets
that drizzle from the fog
you creak in the frost
and seep
through the cracks in the drought
Reflections in ponds
vaporize
What is the beginning
When the ending turns in
And wraps you
In thankfullness?
